Rabies
Rabies is a deadly virus infection that can attack the central nervous system of most warm blooded animals, including humans. Rabies has been around for a long time, and has remained a problem throughout the world. Rabid animals usually exhibit some form of abnormal behavior, which may differ according to species. If left untreated the disease is fatal. Luckily, treatment is highly successful for humans who receive the proper post-exposure rabies antibodies and vaccinations. Three Rivers recommends that you immediately visit your physician if you think you may have been exposed to rabies. Remember that possible exposure to rabies is a medical urgency and NOT a medical emergency. Three Rivers will work with your physician to determine if testing of animals is necessary and if post-exposure prophylaxis is needed.
