Three Rivers District Health Department has an overall diabetes score of 54. Participants' age, diet, activity levels, weight and family history were included in calculating risk for diabetes.

Diabetes is a disease in which body cells do not absorb enough insulin, and if uncontrolled, diabetes can cause several life-threatening conditions as well as numerous illnesses and disabilities. Three Rivers District Health Department has 36.4% of participants at high risk for diabetes based on life style behaviors. Only 4.9% of the Three Rivers District Health Department participants self-reported having diabetes.

With proper lifestyle changes, individuals at risk for diabetes can decrease their risk level for developing the disease. These lifestyle changes include better nutrition, exercise, and smoking cessation.
