Sun Safety
The star in our solar system is a huge and condense ball of very hot gases. The Sun contains about 99.8 percent of all the mass in our solar system. Light and heat from the Sun travel a far distance to reach Earth and support all life on this planet. Too much exposure to the sun's radiation can cause problems, such as skin cancer. In fact, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States and comprises almost 50% of all cancer cases. This is why it's so important to be informed and protected against the sun. POOL COOL is a program developed to encourage positive sun-safety practices among children 5-10 years old, their families, and aquatics staff at swimming pools. The program is funded by the National Cancer Institute. It is an effective program that has been shown to improve children's sun-safety habits and sunscreen use, while also improving sun protection policies at swimming pools. Three Rivers has implemented the program for three years now! Click the links below to learn more about POOL COOL.- POOL COOL Website
